Dr. Richard Zeifman
Clinical Psychologist & Clinic Co-Director
Welcome, I’m Dr. Richard Zeifman, a Clinical Psychologist dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s many complexities. My goal is to provide a space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make meaningful changes in your life.
I work with individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, stress and burnout, and obsessive or compulsive patterns. I also support people integrating psychedelic experiences, as well as those seeking to enhance well-being and personal growth. My approach is collaborative and strengths-based, drawing on evidence-based strategies tailored to your goals, values, and unique experiences.
Our work typically begins with an assessment to understand your story, strengths, and challenges. Together, we develop a treatment plan that fits your needs, drawing from approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). My role is to guide you in building insight, developing skills, and making changes that feel both meaningful and sustainable.
I have years of experience providing assessment and therapy in both outpatient and hospital settings. I am a quality-rated provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and have served as a therapist in multiple clinical trials of psychedelic-assisted therapy, including MDMA-assisted therapy for posttraumatic stress disorder and psilocybin-assisted therapy for major depressive disorder and cancer-related distress.
In addition to clinical work, I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the New School for Social Research (NSSR), where I direct the Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (PATH) Lab. I am also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine (within the NYU Langone Center for Psychedelic Medicine) and an Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College London (Center for Psychedelic Research). My research focuses on understanding how psychotherapy works and on the safety and efficacy of psychedelic-assisted therapy. This research informs my clinical approach, especially my emphasis on building a genuine, collaborative relationship with clients.
Therapy is a collaborative journey, and I feel privileged to support clients as they face challenges, build resilience, and create lives that feel meaningful and fulfilling. I welcome you to reach out to explore working together.
